Second Year History

Transition Year News
On Wednesday 3rd September an information night was held in the school for all TY students and parents. On the night the ‘T.Y Team’ of Ms Fox, Mrs Hughes, Mr Barry and Mr Collins told the parents and students about transition year in Árd Scoil. They told us about the benefits of transition year, and what is expected of us in order to make the year as enjoyable as possible.
Since the TY’s have returned to school we have been very busy. On our first morning our TY team greeted us. We then had a talk all about what will be happening for the year and what we need to do to get the most out of our time in Transition Year.
On Monday 1st September we took part in icebreaker activities with Clodagh Beresford. This allowed us to get to know each other through fun filled games. Clodagh is a lovely person with a good sense of humour and an interesting background. I must admit, although the majority of us have spent an enjoyable, hard-working three years together, I was surprised to learn much more about everyone’s interests and secret hobbies. It’s fair to say that everyone thoroughly enjoyed the activities with Clodagh, who has to be credited for her great communication skills and friendly approach. This was the first activity of TY and from this I’m sure everyone is waiting in anticipation to see what Ms Fox has organised for us next.

School Mass
On Friday we celebrated our annual school mass in the Friary church to launch the new school year and celebrate the excellent Junior and Leaving Certificate results. The new Cairde girls were commissioned and we welcomed the new students and teachers to the school. A big thank you to Fr. John who celebrated the mass, to the religion teachers for their work on preparing the mass and Mrs Lucey for the wonderful music.
