T.Y. News, Student Enterprise County Final, Eagles Flight
10th March 2014
T.Y. News
This has been a busy time as usual for our T.Y. students culminating in their trip to as part of their Gaisce challenges. We shall have photos and details of that next week.
Student Enterprise County Final
On Friday, February 28th, seventeen of the Ard Scoil Transition Year students took part in the Student Enterprise County Final in the Dungarvan Sports Centre. Five teams competed in this, with different products ranging from presents for pets to temporary tattoos. Judging took place at 10 o’clock by 3 different sets of judges who asked about different aspects of the products. Each team was judged on its presentation, finance report and interview. After the judging, members of the public were able to come and view the stalls and their products. The teams and the judges enjoyed the fare served by Jitterbeans.
Later in the afternoon the results were revealed. Unfortunately none of our students made it through to the next round, the Munster Final, but all enjoyed the day immensely and learned a lot.
We would like to congratulate all of our students who made it through to this stage and also to those who made it through to the Munster Final.
Eagles Flight
On Tuesday, March 4th, Ger O’Shea from Eagles Flight visited us to teach us about the importance of setting goals and planning and maximising our resources.
We started off the morning by playing a game called “Gold of the Desert Kings”. We were divided into groups of four and each group was given a pack which included a map. The objective was to get through the desert and collect as much gold as possible. When all of the teams had finished, Ger explained what we should have done and what we could have done better.
The reason for playing the game was so we could experience firsthand the importance of setting goals and planning strategy in advance. Everyone in the class enjoyed it thoroughly and wished we had more time with Ger.
