Public Speaking 30th January 2014
On Monday 27th January, the Ard Scoil held a preliminary school based round of the Soroptimist Public Speaking competition. The TY and 5th Year classes got to enjoy the twelve varied and inspiring speeches from their peers. We were joined by judges, Ms. Cliona Ashe and Mr. John Cunningham who had the difficult job of selecting the speakers who would go forward to the County round to be held in Lawlors Hotel. Everyone was particularly impressed by the visiting students from Germany and Switzerland who took part in the event. The speakers from TY were Hannah Warren, Doireann O’Brien, Cliona Ryan, Ornaith Keane, Doireann O’Keeffe and Maebh Power of whom Cliona Ryan qualified to go forward. In fifth year Carmela Iannotta, Aisling Foley, Tamara Ohly, Guoda Mozeryte and Anna Sojcic participated. Out of these, Aisling Foley, Tamara Ohly, Guoda Mozeryte and Anna Sojcic will go through. From 6th year Ciara Gildea took part and qualified for the next round. Our chairperson was Catherine Bowen assisted by Sophie Coyne as time-keeper.
