Cookery Training, Cork Panto 13th January 2014
TY News On the morning of Tuesday 7th of January the Transition Year students were treated to a cookery demonstration from Robbie Barry of Robbie’s Fresh Food Kitchen. Robbie created a selection of specialities from his cafe. He started by making brown bread, fruit loaf and scones before moving on to his very popular club sandwiches and Cajun chicken burgers, which went down a treat with all the girls.
Everyone was also thoroughly entertained by his stories of training to be a chef in Rockwell and his successful career so far. All of the girls loved the morning and are looking forward to trying out some of the recipes in future Home Economics classes.
By Maebh Power, Jamie Mulcahy, Michelle Sheehan Trip to the Panto On Friday the 10th of January a group of staff and students departed from Dungarvan after school and made their way to Cork City to see this year’s pantomime in the Opera House. The bus arrived in Cork in time for a bit of pre-theatre shopping and dinner. After 7pm everyone made their way to the Opera House to get ready to watch Aladdin. With sweets galore and good spirits everyone settled in for the show. We watched Aladdin and his comrades fight evil and find love, with some music, dance and hilarious puns along the way. There was uproarious laughter from the audience as Widow Twankey pounced on members the audience and Jafar attempted to derail the romance of the hero and heroine. The staff and students of the Ard Scoil even got to contribute to the proceedings when the audience were asked to sing along with current novelty favourite “What does the Fox say?” Our girls definitely were the most enthusiastic and enjoyed themselves immensely. A big thank you to Mr Tommy Collins for once again organising a fabulous trip to the panto. We all had a great time and look forward to next year’s trip already. |
