Transition Year students at the National Ploughing Championships

T.Y.s.  Preparation Day for Work Experience

Last Tuesday, the Transition year students spent the day with Mr. Liam Moore of Honeywell Engines and Systems in preparation for their forthcoming work experience. They worked with him in the school hall for a one day health and safety course. The students learned about different diseases and accidents that can occur in the workplace.

We all practised lifting things properly and had a test at the nd of the day! We all passed and now feel prepared for our work experience in November.

TY's practicing orienteering on a very wet day in Waterford

Orienteering

On Thursday, October 3rd, the T.Y.s went orienteering in Waterford in the Kilbarry Nature Park. The weather forecast predicted that there would be floods on the day and it was correct! The T.Y.s marched, ran and skidded through the boggy lands in the park. They all got very wet as they made their way through over-flowing rivers and flooded bridges. Needless to say, the girls ploughed through the treacherous conditions and they thoroughly enjoyed themselves even though they were soaked to the skin. The girls returned to the Ard Scoil pleased to have experienced the excitement and adrenaline rush of orienteering.

Orienteering is a challenge when you can't see more than 100 feet.

Cyber Day

On Thursday, October 3rd, Waterford County Comhairle na nÓg presented their project, Cyber Code, in schools across the county. This is a project we’ve been involved in for the past 9 to 10 months.

We are campaigning to have every student sign the Cyber Code, a pledge to; never  cyber bully; report any cyber bullying they may see; be aware how you may present yourself online.

During the presentation, we explained the work of the Comhairle and what is cyber bullying.  We gave some examples of this, some statistics and the possible effects of cyber bullying. We showed what students could do to counter this, such as signing up to the code. We were delighted that everyone signed and received a cool wristband to show they are part of this campaign.

Panto Fever!

Lunchtime and after school sees students rehearsing for “Cinderella” under the aegis of Panto  producer extraordinaire Mr. Tommy Collins and his band of helpers. With dancers, singers, musicians, actors, comedians from all the non exam classes, the many talents of our students will be on display in the school hall during the last week of November for an excellent family show, Cinderella.
