Dungarvan V&V Charity Run 2013 in Aid of Lourdes Helpers
Once again the Tipperary Light Car and Motorcycle Club have organised a Run in aid of the girls who will travel as helpers with the Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes. The run will depart from the Lookout at 12.30 with refreshments served beforehand in the school from10.00 to 12.30. Registration will take place in the school.
It is always worth a trip to the Lookout to see these magnificent vehicles and the girls will sell some raffle tickets as they try to pick their favourite car. Thanks to Eamonn Foley, his family and all the participants for organising this attractive outing. Call Eamonn for details at 087-755-1130 or 058-44105.
Munster First Year Football Blitz
On May 1st, 12 of Ard Scoil’s talented first year students headed to Mallow for the Munster First Year Football Blitz. Teams from all six Munster counties took part and the girls had great victories in the group stages where they beat a number of Cork teams easily, with Niamh McComb contributing some fine goals, as did Katie Ferncombe, Alix Fitzgerald and Kate Whelan.
After the lunch break, play resumed with the Ard Scoil girls playing a Kerry team in the semi final. Again, the Ard Scoil students, captained by Clodagh Curran, fought wonderfully and defeated Mounthawk.
The girls faced a strong Laurel Hill team in the final. The match was extremely tight as Emma Gildea and Aisling Baumann battled well in midfield. The girls were down at half time despite some fantastic defensive play from Clodagh Curran and Aoife Hallinan. A last minute cracker from Shauna Coakley almost snatched victory but Laurel Hill pipped us at the post. The future is bright for these young footballers!
Well done to the girls and their mentor, Ms. Fiona Rocheford.
