A Song For Lourdes
On Thursday the 21st of March Ard Scoil na nDeise held a concert “A Song for Lourdes” to fundraise for the fifth year students who are travelling to Lourdes as volunteers. Twenty one acts from the school participated with a variety of acts varying from singing, dancing, musicians and trad groups. The concert was held in the junior and senior halls from eleven to one o’clock. Everyone was greatly entertained throughout as the talent was of an extremely high standard. We were delighted with the event as it was a great success. We would like to thank everyone who performed or helped during the event, especially our MCs Mr. Collins and Ellen Curran both of whom kept the show on the road!

Seachtain na Gaeilge (4ú-17ú de Mí Mártha)
I rith Seachtain na Gaeilge ghlac an scoil ar fad páirt i gComórtas Seanfhocail a bhí an-rathúil. Chomh maith le sin, Dé Máirt ghlac an chéad agus an dara bliain páirt i dTráth na gCeist a d’eagraigh ar idirbhliain. Bhain siad an-taitneamh as. Bhí lá Ghlas againn agus Maidin Dé hAoine, bhí céilí ag an gcéad bhliain le cabhair ón idirbhliain. An tráthnóna sin tháinig muintir na hIdirbhliana o Scoil na mBráithre agus ón Ardscoil le chéile le haghaidh céili. Bhí craic agus spraoi againn go léir. Coicís iontach a bhí ann.

Drumming
Last Week Ard Scoil got the chance to take part in a drumming session with Peter Crann. It was a great experience to try all the different drums and Peter was very funny. He told us about the different drumming festivals in various countries which we found very interesting.
We all got to play the bongo, snare drum, cow bells, African drums and lots of other types. All of the instruments had their own unique sound. At the end we were all given an instrument to play together as a band. We played in front of a great audience – our maths teacher Mr Barry!
We really enjoyed the day and can’t wait to see Peter again next year!

Congratulations to Feis Winners
Emma Casey wrote this account of her recent success at Feis Maitiu which was recently held in the Father Matthew Hall in Cork.
On the 19th of March I competed in the Under 18 Public Speaking Competition at Feis Maitiu. I prepared a five minute speech on mental health issues. I awarded the Scoil Íte Perpetual Cup and a Feis Maitiu silver medal with distinctions. I also received a silver medal for reciting Yeats poetry in the Over -16 competition and third place with commendation in the Under-18 poetry competition. I must gice a big thank you to my elocution teacher Bridget Keane.
Well done Emma! Congratulations also to AIsling Curran from 3rd year, who won a medal in the piano competition at Feis Maitiu.
Both girls have been involved in Ard Scoil events such as drama, public speaking, poetry reading etc. and are always more than willing to participate in the cultural life of the school.
