"Reaching our Potential with Respect, Care and Friendship"

Cookery Competition, Orienteering, Seachtain na Gaelige, Coffee Morning, Voice of Ireland, Cross Country

18th March 2013

Cookery Competition

On Monday the 11th of March Elizabeth and Catherine took part in the town hall cookery competition for T.Y. students as part of the West Waterford Festival of Food. There were eight other groups competing and they were each made up of three members. Many of the girls’ class mates and friends came to support them.

Elizabeth and Catherine were in the third round.  They were given a bag of ingredients, whose contents they didn’t know until they opened it. Inside the bag they found chicken fillets, red onion, parsley, garlic, corn, rice and coconut milk. They whipped up a chicken curry style dish and managed to use all of their ingredients. Although they did not win they were complimented on their dish and had great fun representing their school.

Taking shelter during a sudden downpour at Colligan Woods

Orienteering

On the 14th of March 2013 all the T.Y. students visited Colligan Woods as part of the Munster orienteering competition with Mrs. Pickering and Mr. Barry.  They sun was shining brightly on the forest and we were excited for the day ahead. We were separated into groups and given maps of our routes. The competition was strong as the woods was packed full of teams from all over Munster!

We set off on our trail using our maps to guide us from point to point (of which there were 14 in total). Despite the sunshine the tracks were still mucky and as we crossed the finish line we were all very muddy – but happy! After collecting our course times we sat down for a bite to eat, but had to take shelter as the sunshine gave way to heavy rain – typical Ireland! Fortunately the bus arrived very quickly and we got on exhausted but delighted with our adventure in the woods

Seachtain na Gaelige

Various events took place during the week to mark Seachtain na Gaelige – quizzes, poster competitions, several ceilidhs all culminating in the TY ceilidh on Friday, where they danced with their partners from the CBS. More news of these events next week!

Lourdes Group Coffee Morning

A cupcake tree at the Lourdes Coffee Morning

On Friday morning the fifth year Lourdes group organised a tea/coffee morning for teachers past and present in one of the cookery rooms. The tables were beautifully set up with flowers and colourful napkins and a huge array of cakes was on display. It was a very pleasant occasion to sit and chat over the delicious treats efficiently served by the girls.  Well done girls and we are delighted to hear that you raised a good sum to fundraise the trip to Lourdes.

“The Voice” star Jennifer Moore visits the Ard Scoil

Jennifer Moore returns to her Alma Mater and visits current students

On Wednesday past pupil Jennifer Moore visited her Alma Mater to sing for the girls and chat to them.  It was brilliant to hear of her adventure in getting to the live shows. We all know of Jennifer’s beautiful voice from the many performances she gave during her years in the Ard Scoil and we are delighted that others can now enjoy her immense talent. We wish her every success and please VOTE for her on Sunday night.

Jennifer shows why she's a finalist with Voice of Ireland

Inter Schools Cross Country Hunter Trials

On Saturday Ms. Pickering accompanied first year students Elizabeth Keating and Lydia Troy to Wexford, where they competed in the arduous Cross Country trials. Though not winners they acquitted themselves very well and we hope to see them in the Ard Scoil colours again. A big thank you to the parents for transporting the girls and ponies to the event.
