Creative Dance, Toy Show Appearance, Football, Camogie, Carol Service, Table Quiz 10th December 2012 Creative Dance A group of fifteen transition year students completed a six week dance course with Libby Seward, with two hour rehearsals every Wednesday. They designed a creative dance routine fifteen minutes long choreographed by Libby and the students themselves. Imagination and creativity played a big role in the preparation of the dance routine. On the morning of November 19th, the sixteen girls left the Ard Scoil at eight in the morning and headed to Garter Lane Theatre in Waterford.
On arrival, they went into the gallery and met the students from the other schools participating in the creative dance programme .Then they had a warm up session in the theatre which they enjoyed as they got time to make friends with the other students. They had a talk on the use of lighting in stage production and were set the task of designing their own programme for their dance. The girls had been given access to the costume department of the Ard Scoil and had chosen “glamorous” themed outfits; the theme of the dance was transition. At the end of the day, each of the four school groups performed their own idea of transition through dance. Everyone was supportive of each other. The girls then received certificates of their participation in the programme. We would like to thank Libby Seward and all involved for their hard work in making this such an enjoyable experience.Roisin Leonard Late Late Toy Show Appearance T.Y. student Clara Mannion wrote this account of her recent appearance on the Late Late Toy Show. On Friday, November 30th, I was lucky, along with my sister Laura, a first year Ard Scoil student, and our brother Joseph who is in third class in Kilbrien N.S., to be chosen to perform traditional Irish music on the Late Late Toy Show. It was a once in a lifetime experience for us as a family. We first sent a DVD of “The Mannion Family” performance to R.T.E. Three weeks later we got the good news that we had been picked from thousands of children to come to R.T.E. to audition. We gave it our all!! A week later we received a phone call with even bigger and better news, We had been chosen to appear on the Late Late Toy Show! We went to the TV. studios for three rehearsals. Words cannot describe our excitement on the night of the actual show! We had such a good time and Ryan Tubridy was a friendly and fun person to meet. It was a wonderful experience and we will never forget it. I’m sure we’ll see these talented musicians on the television again in the future. Clara has entertained us in school on many occasions and this year Laura joined her to entertain guests on Open Night. Sports Football Ard Scoil Senior footballers qualified for the \Munster D semi final last Monday when they defeated Carrignavar in Castlemartre. It was an all round team performance resulting in a convincing win of 2-19 to 2-9.The girls will play B.C.S. next week in the semi final. Camogie The Ard Scoil junior camogie team bowed out of the Munster Championship when they were defeated by a very strong Presentation Waterford team. The score line does not reflect the effort the girls put in and the game could have been closer except for some fine saves by the Pres goalie. Well done to all and their mentor Ms. Fiona Rocheford. Carol Service On Friday afternoon the school community went to St. Mary’s Parish Church for our annual Carol Service. It was Fr. John Harris’ first carol service and he told the girls that their readings and music had put him in Christmas mode. Once again, it was a delightful and moving ceremony, reminding us of the Real Christmas. Mrs. Hughes thanked religion teachers Ms O’Shea and Ms Cotter for all their work in preparing the service, those who had read and music teacher Mrs. Lucey and her wonderful musicians and singers for their superb performance. BSTAI and CIMA Table Quiz On December 5th, third year Business students Hannah Warren, Emily Quinn, Meabh Power and Heather Duff White travelled to Waterford to participate in the BSTAI and CIMA table quiz where they came eighth out of twenty teams. Well done girls.
