Dungarvan Lions Club Trad Concert
Ard Scoil Students at the Lions Club Concert
Many thanks to Ard Scoil na nDéise musicians Amy and Kate Faherty, Chloe Keane, Aoife Murphy, Muireann O’Brien, Hannah Power, Eleanor Walsh and Muireann Walsh who entertained the audience at the Dungarvan Lions Club Autumn Concert on Friday, October 19th. The traditional musicians who learn fiddle, concertina, traditional flute and tin whistle with their Music teachers in Coolnasmear and Youghal Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Eireann were accompanied by students playing guitar and even ukulele, a popular instrument being taught to all Transition Year students in the school this year.
The girls played a selection of reels, polkas, slip jigs and slow airs. Many singers in the audience hummed along to tunes they knew and even began to sing along at one point, thoroughly enjoying the young performers. The school was very happy to be associated with this event which raised money for Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind and the South East Radiotherapy Trust. Well done to the girls and to our Music teacher Ms. Ciara Lucey who prepared for the concert with them.
There's a strong Traditional Music base in the school and county.
Paris Trip Coming Up!
Getting set to see the sights of Paris
The months of planning have finally come to an end, the bags are being packed as we look forward to setting off this Saturday for La Belle Paris! A group of 52 students and their teachers will set off from the Ard Scoil bright and early to catch our flight from Cork to Paris. With every moment of the day packed full of activities, it’s going to be an exciting and interesting trip.
Good Win for Senior Footballers
During the week, the senior footballers had a good start to their league campaign with an impressive win over Youghal, winning by 9-9 to 2-4. Mentor Ms. Fiona Rocheford was very pleased with their performance.
Training continues for senior and junior players with camogie and hockey players also at work. P.E classes are enjoying badminton and volleyball with our Spanish students showing the way in volleyball which they’ve played at home.
Pink Day
This Wednesday the Ard Scoil will be decked out in pink as we again hold our Pink Day in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Week. This year, picnics are planned so we hope the weather will be favourable as we support this very worthy cause.
