Laura Connors Qualifies for RDS

T.Y. News.

Since their return from work experience the T.Y. students have been very busy as usual. This week they had their end of year interviews where they displayed by means of their journals and projects the vast amount of work and activities they had enjoyed this year. The interviewing panel was very impressed by the high standard and the wide range of the work they had covered during the year.

As Well as class work, the T.Y students always have time to help out with charitable events and have been involved in a number of fundraising events over the months. This week they braved the cold winds to help selling flags for the Irish Heart Foundation. A group of girls accompanied Mr. Tommy Collins to the Deise Day care centre to entertain with their singing and musical talent.

The girls had their final Pilates session which all declared to have been very enjoyable and wished it lasted longer! They also celebrated the end of the etiquette course by dining out with course teacher Mrs. Joan Clancy at the Moorings. Thank you to Marie Quinn for her welcome to the girls.

As they finish up the year, the T.Y.classes are also busy putting the finishing touches to their Year Books, something they can look at in years to come and relive their year.

Visit of Eleanor Power of the Colour Room.

On Tuesday, May 8th, the T.Y.s had a visit from Eleanor of the Colour Room to tell us how to take care of our hair. The session started after lunch and continued until the end of school. She taught us how to correctly wash our hair and how to straighten it properly. She also showed us how to do GHD curls and demonstrated some simple but fancy “up’do’s” We had an amazing afternoon and learned an awful lot...thank you Eleanor.

Lourdes Group

The girls who will travel to Lourdes in June with the Diocesan pilgrimage have been very busy fundraising. On Thursday they had a sale of oh too delicious cakes and on Thursday night had a very successful table quiz for Primary school pupils. I will have more information on this next week plus a list of the very generous sponsors.

Vintage Cars on Display for Lourdes Helpers

Sunday saw a wonderful array of vintage cars at the school and the Lookout as once again Mr. Eamonn Foley and friends organised a run in aid of the girls. The girls were on hand to provide refreshments before the start and at the finish our talented musicians played to entertain. The cars set out in beautiful sunshine which enhanced the wonderful condition of these magnificent machines, especially the sparkly V.W. Beetle! Again, more news on this event next week.

The Barber of Seville.

The students and teachers of the Ard Scoil are delighted with the opportunity to attend a live performance of “The Barber of \Seville” in the opulent surroundings of Lismore Castle. We feel that in this era of technology where students are constantly bombarded by TV, phones, iPods etc., this cultural experience will help to broaden the minds of the girls and hopefully create a love for live stage productions and music in general. We are delighted to have this opportunity and of course also look forward to meeting the President of Ireland, Mr.Michael D.Higgins.

Sporting Congratulations

Well done to the girls in different classes who have been very successful in recent weeks with their local G.A.A and Soccer teams. A modest T.Y student said to say well done to all and not just her team

T.Y. student Laura Connors, who recently performed so well as part of the Irish S.J. team in France, has qualified in Cavan for the R.D.S. this summer on her pony Ballynoe Fear Bui. She will compete in the 148 6/7 year old 1m.20 event and we wish her every success.
