"Reaching our Potential with Respect, Care and Friendship"

Athletic Track and Field Success, Lourdes Table Quiz

7th May 2012

More Success For Ard Scoil Athletes

Athletes from the Ard Scoil followed up their success at the county schools championships with another good day at the East Munster School Track and Field Championships. Competition was keen as only the first three athletes in each event qualified for the Aviva Munster Schools Championships.

First in action was Aileen Power in the Junior Girls Hammer and she got the team off to a flying start with a win in this event throwing 28m 95. Ciara Scanlan continued the winning trend by taking the Senior Girls Hammer title with a throw of 35m11. There was further success in the jumping events with Aine Power winning the Senior Girls Triple Jump with a jump of 9m 25 and Kate McGrath taking the Junior Girls title with a leap of 9m 07.

In the High jump Laura Connors cleared 1m50 for the first time when finishing 2nd in the Inter Girls and first year Alanna Coyne in only her second competition cleared 1m25 to finish third in the Junior Girls event. In the same competition Shauna Young had a new personal best when she jumped 1m20. In the Senior Long Jump Kaylee Norris finished in 2nd place. On the track Ornaith had a very good run to finish 3rd in the Junior Girls 800m. Hannah Power had a strong late sprint in the Junior Girls 1500m but there was just too much ground to make up and she had to settle for 4th place. In the sprints Grace Heffernan made it through to the final of the Junior Girls 100m and was just centimetres short of a medal in the triple jump. Kate McGrath also reached the final of the Junior Girls 75m Hurdles where she finished 4th.

Well done to all who took part in these championships.

Table Quiz for Lourdes

Thirteen of our 5th year students are hoping to travel to Lourdes this June as helpers to the sick and elderly of our diocese. In order to do this volunteer work, they have been working very hard to fundraise for their flights and accommodation. Without the youth this annual pilgrimage would not be able to go ahead.

They have organised a Table Quiz for 4th, 5th and 6th class pupils, which will take place on Thursday the 10th of May at 7pm in the Ard Scoil na nDéise senior hall. The price per table is €16 (€4 per child). On the night each child will be given a complimentary raffle ticket, and will then be put into a draw with a chance to win some amazing prizes such as Ger Wyleys gift vouchers, Cinema tickets, delicious sweet jars and much more. Trophies (kindly sponsored by Daltons Jewellers) will also be presented to the winning team, with prizes for second and third.

They will also be running a tuck shop, where scrumptious homemade goodies will be on sale for very reasonable prices. All support is greatly appreciated.
