"Reaching our Potential with Respect, Care and Friendship"

Under 16 Camogie, Lismore Art Exhibition, Recycled Fashion Show, Lourdes Fund

9th April 2012

Under 16 Camogie.

On Wednesday, March 22nd, our under 16 camogie players headed out to a sun splashed Bushy Park to compete in the Waterford Schools’ Championship. From the throw in it was evident that both teams were eager to make their mark in the competition.

Ard Scoil started well when Kate |McGrath received a ball from defence to score the first point of the opening half. Shortly after, Lauren McGregor passed the ball to Stella Queally who steadied herself and registered the second point of the game

Thanks to Ard Scoil’s outstanding halfback line of Jessica Troy, Taylor Murray and Jade Hayes, the Blackwater forwards were finding it difficult past them. Ciara Hurley then pulled off a brilliant save. Ailbhe Looby then won a free and the combined play of Orla Hickey and Lauren saw the ball driven over the Blackwater bar. Orla was then awareded a 20 metre free which was driven into the Blackwater net. Blackwater won a free which they converted to leave the half time score 1.3 to 1 point.

The second half saw the introduction of some subs and a new keeper in the Ard Scoil goal. At the beginning of the second half, Blackwater had a lot of possession but sent some balls wide. Our six backs made it very difficult for Blackwater to convert this possession into scores with Kayleigh Veale well in control at fullback. Blackwater then got their second score of the game from a free. Ard Scoil’s second goal of the game came from Louise Conway when she pulled on the ground to send the ball into the Blackwater net. Blackwater responded well with a 45 which was sent over the bar.

The save of the match came from Stella Queally to deny the opposition a goal. Orla then took a 45m. which dropped short into the path of Caoimhe Fogarty who placed it into the net. Blackwater then scored two points in the dying minutes of the game. The last puck of the game came to Lauren and she put the ball over the bar for a well taken score. The final score was Ard Scoil 3:4 – Blackwater 1:4

Team; Ciara Hurley, Ellen Curran,Kayleigh Veale, Nadine Broen, Jessica Troy,Taylor Murray, Jade Hayes, , Stella Queally, Orla Hickey, Lauren McGregor,Kate McGrath,Ailbhe Looby, Caoimhe Fogary, Hannah Power, Amy Ferncombe. Subs: Grainne Lane, Lauren |Organ, Aileen Power and Michaela Moran.

Lismore Art Exhibition.

Well done to Art teacher Mrs Mary Foley and her students whose wonderful works of art were displayed at the schools’ section of the exhibition. Congratulations to T.Y. pupil Chloe Keane who was awarded the Purchase Prize and whose painting now hangs in the exhibition at Lismore Castle.

Ard Scoil Recycled Fashion Show.

On Friday, March 30th, the T.Y. students, guided by Mrs Vera O’Brien and Mrs. Mary Foley presented a fashion show with a twist; all the outfits had to be made from recycled materials. Students from the different classes worked together to create some really extraordinary “ensembles”. The models strutted their stuff in the Junior Hall as commere, Emma de Paor described what they were wearing. Judges Mrs. Ciara Lucey, Mr. Daniel Veale, Mrs Mary Foley and T.Y. student Ellen Power certainly had their work cut out trying to choose winners. Additional amusement was enjoyed by the students as they tried to guess the owners of the “vintage” outfits provided by some of the teachers and modelled by the girls!

With outfits entitled Rainbow Bride,Under the Sea, Robox, Newspaper Frills and Easter Bunny to name but a few, the girls thoroughly enjoyed the spectacle while raising funds for four charities, The West Waterford Hospice Movement, The Alzheimer Society, Guide Dogs for the Blind and The Cancer Society.

There were many prizes on offer during the day and we would like to thank those who sponsored these; Ger Whyley, Sam McCauley, Venture, Polkadots, Garage, The beauty Place,Jitterbeans, Williams and Hallahans. Thank you very much indeed.

Lourdes Fund.

Thanks to all who supported Women in Shakespeare last week. The evening raised €226 for the Lourdes fund.
