Cookery Competition, Fun Run, Recycling Fashion Show, Women in Shakespeare, Poetry Reading
26th March 2012
T.Y. Cookery Competition.
Over the past weeks, Ms. Fox’s T.Y. students have been tantalising us with the wonderful aromas coming from the kitchen as they cooked for the heats of their cookery competition. They have created some amazing dishes with Davina and Alice cooking Dutch and French specialities.
The final of the competition takes place this Wednesday from 11 until 1 and will be judged by Mrs. Eunice Power of Powerscourt House.
Annual Fun Run.
On Friday morning, the annual fun run organised by the Parents’ Council will take place. The theme this year is Superheroes and I’m sure we’ll see some amazing costumes on the day. This event is organised to raise much needed funds for the school so we urge you to support the girls who each have a sponsorship card. Once again, a big thank you to the Parents’ Council for organising this event.
Recycling Fashion Show.
On Friday afternoon there will be an unusual fashion show which is being organised by Mrs. Vera O’Brien and the T.Y. students. Students will have to use recycled materials to create an outfit and there will be many highly imaginative “ensembles” on view. We are looking forward to an entertaining afternoon.
Women in Shakespeare.
There have been unusual sightings around the school corridors of students heading from class to class spouting Shakespeare! The reason? Past pupil Una Power, who studied Drama and Theatre Studies in U.C.C., is directing T.Y. pupils in scenes from different Shakespeare plays. The girls have been involved in all aspects of preparing for this production from art work to music to acting and have realised that Shakespeare can be fun!!!
On Thursday 29th of April at 8pm the culmination of the girls’ efforts will be seen in the Ard Scoil Junior Hall. The night will consist of a selection of Shakespearian scenes, which feature strong and interesting female roles, as well one where all the male roles were made female. The girls have experimented with different theatrical styles and the result is both fun and interesting.
Tickets are €5/2 for adults/students and will be available at the school office. Seating is limited.
