Art Exhibition Raises Funds for Hospice.

We would like to thank all the visitors to the recent Art Exhibition who contributed generously to the collection in aid of West Waterford Hospice. Over € 500 was raised for this very worthy cause which is supported every year by our T.Y. students who run various fundraising events throughout the year. Thanks again to all the generous contributors.

T.Y. News.

This week our T.Ys are out in the world as they begin two weeks work experience. I’m sure they will benefit greatly from this and we thank all the employers who have accepted the girls into their workplace.

The girls have been busy working on their business enterprise projects and will be able to showcase their products at the annual craft fair on December 14th.

Parents' Council

The Ard Scoil Parents' Council has done fabulous work raising funds for the school. Well done and thank you, parents, for your support. In the photo below, Teresa Daly, chairperson of the Parents' Council surrounded by members of Parents' Council hands over a cheque to Dorothy Hughes, Principal, and Colette Power, Deputy Principal. The cheque marks the proceeds of their fundraising during the year.

Poetry Aloud.

Good luck to second year student, Aisling Curran, who was recently chosen at the county competition of Poetry Aloud to go forward to the Regional finals to be held this week in the National library in Dublin. For this competition, organised by Poetry Ireland, Aisling will recite two poems and I’ve no doubt she will do very well indeed.

Camogie.

Last Wednesday our Junior camogie played a very strong team from St. Aloysius College, Carrigtwohill. Thanks to T.Y. students Amy Ferncombe and Jenna Kiely who reported on the match and Jemma Kiely who took the accompanying photos.

“Even though the match wasn’t a great success, some girls on the team showed great potential and are a credit to the school team; we look forward to seeing their success in the future. The score wasn’t the best but it didn’t keep the girls’ spirits down and we’re hoping to have better luck with the senior team on. Monday.”

Management, Leadership and Learning, School Inspection.

Following the whole school inspection they conducted before the midterm break, Department of Education and Science inspectors Seanie McGrath and Kevin McClean returned to the school on Wednesday to give an interim report on their findings to the staff and the Board of Management. While the completed report won’t be available until the New Year, they did furnish us with the results of the surveys done with the parents and students. These very positive surveys, which were independently assessed, will shortly available on the school website. The Principal, Mrs. Hughes would like to thank all members of the school community for their cooperation during the inspection.
