Second Year Trip to Dublin
Friday May 27th, the second years had no difficulty coming to school. In fact, we arrived two hours early to catch the 7.00.a.m. bus outside the Arid Scoil. Full of high spirits and chat, we entered Dublin Zoo shortly before 11.00. a.m.
The newborn baby giraffe attracted gasps of admiration and the little penguins proved to be a great hit. We got up close with the tigers and lemurs and were amazed at the enormous size of the silver backed gorilla. After a packed lunch, we headed to Dundrum for some retail therapy.
However, the highlight of the trip was yet to come. On entering the bus there were whoops of laughter and screams as we watched a DVD of our First Year concert. It’s hard to believe we’ve changed so much in the space of a year! Then we sang along to the DVD of the Second Year concert and relived every exciting moment. We were entertained on the bus microphone by the superb singing of Roisin Leonard, Edel Power, and our Spanish student, Mapi.
The time flew until we arrived home in Dungarvan at 8.00 p.m., tired and exhausted after a brilliant day. Thanks to our Year Head, Bean de Paor and our tutors, Mrs O’Driscoll and Mrs. Lonergan.
Students’ Council Charity Work.
Each year the Student Council of Ard Scoil na nDeise adopts a charity which is supported by generous donations from the students.
Traditionally, charities are chosen by the student representatives. Mrs. Ashe initiated this year’s fundraiser. Our Blue and White Day supported our students, past and present, on the Waterford Ladies team and boosted school spirit as well as raising money for the Student Council Charity Fund. We appreciated Mrs.Ashe’s support.
The Student Council presented donations to the Ard Scoil Lourdes Fund, SERT, and Cystic Fibrosis in the hope that they will assist in the good work of these organisations.
Tommy Kiely accepts a cheque on behalf of SERT from members of the Student Council.
Junior and Leaving Cert Exams.
We wish all the best to our students in the throes of their exams at the moment. I’m sure all the years of hard work will pay off before you enjoy a well deserved summer rest.
