T.Y.- Carriglea Service Users’ Art Exhibition.
On Monday, May 16th, Mr. John O’Flynn, chairman of the Board of Management, opened this year’s Art Exhibition. Now in its eighth year, this programme was the brainchild of Regina Deegan of Carriglea Services. Once a week the ladies from Carriglea join the T.Y. art students and each year an exhibition of their wonderful artwork is mounted in the Junior Hall.
This year the Carriglea service users who participated in the programme were, Nollaig Cummins, Marian McGovern, Avice Cook, Jean Hewitt and Majella Ryan. The programme coordinator is Elaine Clancy and April Walsh accompanied the ladies every week.
An enjoyable time was had by all and good friendships were formed between the students and the ladies. Thanks to T.Y. coordinator Mrs. Anne Stack and Art teacher Mrs. Mary Foley.
Cairde Girls.
The 2010/2011 Cairde girls were thanked for their contribution to school life over the past year at a lunch on Friday in the company of their mentor Ms. Anne Gleeson, Principal Mrs Dorothy Hughes, Vice Principal Mrs. Colette Power and Mrs. Denise O’Brien of the Parents’ Council.
The girls really deserved the treat in recognition of all their support to the school community during the year. The first job of the incoming group of Cairde Girls was to tidy up the kitchen following the meal! They will take up their duties in September as they will help new first year students to settle in.

First Year Football.
On Thursday, 26 first year footballers travelled to Clonmel with teacher Mrs. Ashe to take part in the Tipperary Football blitz.
They beat the teams of Pres, Clonmel and Loreto Clonmel and after a great match lost to Pres, Thurles by a point to reach the B Final. Unfortunately they lost to the Gael Cholaiste team on a scoreline of 2-4 to 1-5.
I’m sure we’ll see more of these talented footballers in future Ard Scoil teams.
2.2 Class Magazine.
In recent English class work, the 2.2 students worked in groups to write some very entertaining stories! It was decided to incorporate these into a class magazine and students added articles on music and sport and the “Turas Scoile” plus profiles of each pupil. They worked very well together and each received a copy.... to be read in many years time, no doubt, when it will bring back memories of second year!
Lourdes Committee Receives Cheque from Tipperary Motorcycle and Light Car Club.
On Wednesday, following the very successful vintage car rally the previous week, members of the Tipperary Club presented the Lourdes committee with a cheque for €1,400.! This very generous donation is due to the hard work of all those involved in organising the event.
Particular thanks is due to the Foley family, Eamonn, Nora and daughter Andrea and The Country Store which created the hamper for Best in Show Car.
But, they were not alone in their generosity. A big thanks is due to all the sponsors, really a roll call of honour of Dungarvan's generous business sector.

T.Y. News.
The T.Y.s are very busy as they finish projects before they graduate on Wednesday night. Many are finishing their ecdl course and are preparing their class yearbooks. They have taken some time out from school work for other activities.
On Thursday, Eleanor O’Connor from The Colour Room showed the girls how to take good care of their crowning glory. She advised them on how to keep their hair in good condition and advised them on what products to use. She finished by demonstrating the correct use of GHDs and different hairstyle. She gave Katie advice and told her to call to the colour room to be given a product.
Everyone enjoyed the day and learned a lot.

Horse Back Riding
On Wednesday, a group went horse riding and Amy O’Brien gave me this report.
On Wednesday the18th of May, 7 students from TYA andTYB went to Donna Coady’s riding school in Kilgobnet to go horse riding. At 10.30 we got on the bus and went out to Dona’s. 3 girls were in the first group and 5 in the second.
We spent half an hour in the arena and we learned how to trot and she taught us about the horses and the correct way to treat a horse. The first group did some trotting and cantering and we went over trotting poles. The second group did balancing exercises on the horses and walking in and out through vertical jumping poles.
The day was a great success and we really enjoyed and didn’t want to leave. Mr. Collins made a promise to take us again in the near future.
