"Reaching our Potential with Respect, Care and Friendship"

T.Y. Cookery Competition & Surfing, Vintage Car Rally

16th May 2011

T.Y. Cookery Competition

On Wednesday afternoon, 16 Transition Year students from TY-A and TY-B took part in a cookery competition which was judged was judged by Eunice Power of Powerscourt House. A wide variety of dishes was produced and the cooking was of a very high standard. Niamh and Norma served a delicious prawn cocktail while Sarah and Meghan created a chicken and broccoli bake. Everyone had an enjoyable time while working hard. The winning dishes were chosen based on the presentation, taste and nutritional value of the dish.

The runners up were Tabitha Alexander and Claire Curran whose dish included waffles made from Tabitha’s home-made flour and eggs from her own chickens. The other runners up were Rachel French and Niamh Seward who made veggie burgers. The overall winners were Abigail de Souza and Lauren Sheehan who baked salmon with Asian noodles and a sweet fruit crumble. The prizes included vouchers from local restaurants.

Thank you to teacher Ms. Fox and to Eunice Power for giving her time to come and judge the competition.

Niamh Seward and Rachel French.

T.Y. News

On Thursday the TYs took a day out for their second trip of the year for a day’s surfing. As usual great fun was had by all. The girls are busy putting the finishing touches to their year books, something they can look into in years to come to remember all the different facets of this year.

This week they have their interviews where they can display all the work they have accomplished during the year; no wonder it goes by so quickly, they do so much!!!

Vintage Car Rally Fundraiser for Lourdes

Sunday morning was a busy time in the Ard Scoil as the Lourdes Committee, along with teachers Mrs. O’Driscoll, Ms. O’Shea and Ms.Cotter provided refreshments for the drivers of the wonderful vintage cars before they set off on their journey at 12.00. The” Look Out” was a hive of activity as the cars lined up for inspection by the girls who chose the “car of the day”, a 1939 in immaculate condition, as indeed were all the vehicles, including a fire engine!

The colourful collection drew many admires and we’d like to thank all those who supported the fundraising by buying raffle tickets. A group of motorcyclists came to support us although they were not actually going to participate in the rally itself.

This novel fundraiser was the brainchild of Andrea Foley in 5th year who prevailed upon her father, a vintage car enthusiast, to organise the event. Indeed, we are indebted to the Foley family as Mrs. Foley was on hand to take entries at the Ard Scoil. A huge thank you to them and their friends for giving up so much time organising this very special end enjoyable day out......in such style. Thank you again to Eamonn and Nora Foley, all the participants, the girls and their teachers and all who contributed so generously to the fund.
