"Reaching our Potential with Respect, Care and Friendship"

17th January, 2011.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As you know, Pre-Leaving and Pre-Junior Cert exams begin on Monday, February 28th, right after the Mid-term break.  It is important that all examination students have a good study routine at this stage of the school year and there are a few places available for supervised study.

Pre-examinations

The cost for the Pre-exams for Leaving Certificate students this year will be €110  (including answer books) for most students, €20 extra for those taking Art and €10 extra for L.C.V.P.  The fee must be paid by Friday, January 21st. While students from families with Medical Cards do not pay fees for the State Examinations, unfortunately, no such concession applies for the Pre-exams. The fees may be paid by instalment, as the students are already aware, and Mrs. Ashe is in charge of the collection of fees.  Please put the money in an envelope, with the student’s name and the amount written on it.  Cheques should be made payable to Ard Scoil na nDéise.

Project work and deadlines

Some students have project work to complete as part of the exam in a few of their subjects. I would appreciate if you could remind your daughter of the importance of being prepared in good time, so that she can meet her deadlines without too much stress!

State examinations

The State Examination fee for Leaving Certificate 2010 is €109

Candidates who hold a medical card or are dependent on a parent or guardian who holds a medical card are not liable for examination fees.  Medical cards will be accepted only if valid on 1st February 2011.

N.B. G.P. Visit Cards are not eligible for exemption of fees.

An individual pre-printed form (EF3/G) will be given by Mrs O’Hare to each candidate entered for the examinations.  This form will be a combined BankGiro/Medical Card form. It is absolutely vital that this form is not lost by the candidate or her parent, as photocopies are not accepted by the State Examinations Commission.  When the forms have been stamped in the bank after payment, or completed with medical card details in the case of those covered by the medical card exemption, they must be returned to the school (to Mrs. O’Hare).

C.A.O. applications

As you may have heard, there were difficulties with the C.A.O. website in 2007 for those candidates who left their applications until the last minute.  If your daughter intends submitting an application and has not yet done so, I would encourage you to ensure that she does it in good time, to avoid unnecessary stress and upset. Candidates who apply by January 20th pay €30, a reduction of €10. The deadline is February 1st.  Mrs Gleeson, our Guidance Counsellor, has invited students who need help with the application to bring in the necessary credit card etc so she can do the online application with them.

I wish your daughter every success in the forthcoming examinations, and if she feels particularly worried or stressed, please encourage her to come and speak to me or to a teacher.

Yours sincerely,

______________
Dorothy Hughes,
Principal.
