Under 16 Camogie Victory
On Friday our under 16 camogie team, with their coach Ms Pickering, travelled to Ladysbridge to play against the team of Colaiste an Phiarsaigh Cork. The girls had a very impressive start and led at half time by 7:1. However the girls from an Phiarsaigh came back strongly in the second half, but the Ard Scoil held out to win by 8:3 to 6:3 and now progress to the semi-final. Scorers: Stella Quelly 3 goals, Angela McIntosh two goals, Ciara Hurley one goal, Aileen two goals and two points and Orla Dunne one point.
Well done girls and best of luck in the semi-final.
Hope Foundation
Theresa Sullivan, a volunteer worker with the Hope Foundation, spoke to the girls of the work carried out by this organisation in helping the street children of Calcutta. At the moment, indeed, two of our retired teachers, Mrs Angela Conway and Mr John Cunningham, are with a group doing a sponsored walk in northern India on behalf of the Hope Foundation.
T.Y. students, Lauren Reagan, Abi de Souza, Ciara Sheehan, Aisling Hayes and Lauren Sheehan, are selling the delicious Hope chocolate bars in school to raise funds for this worthy Foundation.
Focus Ireland
The T.Y. students watched a film and listened and learned much about the plight of the homeless in Ireland, when a member of Focus Ireland came to meet them. One lesson learned was that it can happen to anyone. The girls hope to fundraise for the charity in the future.
T.Y. work Experience
At the moment T.Y. students have gone into professional environments for their Work Experience module. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the employers in Dungarvan who have offered placements to the girls.
Gideon Bible
First year students met members of the Gideon Bible society, who spoke to them of the Holy Scriptures and gave each student a copy of the New Testament.
Awards Night
Next Friday night the Ard Scoil will hold its annual Awards Ceremony, when we are delighted to mark the many achievements of our students.
