Pink Day
Thursday the 14th of October was Ard Scoil na nDeise’s Pink Day, an event held in support of The Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign, took place in Walton Park, Abbeyside.
Third and first year students, accompanied by their teachers, travelled to Walton Park for an open air concert to celebrate Ard Scoil na nDeise Pink Day. This was the highlight of Breast Cancer Awareness week in the Ard Scoil. During the various events took place in school, including a Pink Cake Sale, a raffle and a Pink Disco for first years. In the midst all this revelry the serious side of the campaign was highlighted, as the students were given vital information on this issue via the intercom system.
All students who travelled to Walton Park wore pink, and brought with them a pink balloon. With their teachers they gathered around the Fountain, which was decorated with clusters of pink balloons. The event was hosted by Mr. Tommy Collins. Jessica O’Brien and Caitriona Slevin, third year students, addressed the gathering. Singers Jennifer Moore and Layla Quarry and the First Year Choir entertained the audience as did many of our talented musicians.
Members of the local Chamber of Commerce, businesses and the Waterford Hospice Movement attended the occasion, as did parents and other members of the Dungarvan Community. The event concluded with the release of 200 pink balloons into the air, each a symbol of our continuing support of the Irish Cancer Society.
We would like to thank Mrs. Vera O’Brien and her third year CSPE class for organising Pink Week in the Ard Scoil.
