Pink Day

Thursday the 14th of October was Ard Scoil na nDeise’s Pink Day, an event held in support of The Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign, took place in Walton Park, Abbeyside.

Third and first year students, accompanied by their teachers, travelled to Walton Park for an open air concert to celebrate Ard Scoil na nDeise Pink Day. This was the highlight of Breast Cancer Awareness week in the Ard Scoil. During the various events took place in school, including a Pink Cake Sale, a raffle and a Pink Disco for first years. In the midst all this revelry the serious side of the campaign was highlighted, as the students were given vital information on this issue via the intercom system.

All students who travelled to Walton Park wore pink, and brought with them a pink balloon. With their teachers they gathered around the Fountain, which was decorated with clusters of pink balloons. The event was hosted by Mr. Tommy Collins. Jessica O’Brien and Caitriona Slevin, third year students, addressed the gathering. Singers Jennifer Moore and Layla Quarry and the First Year Choir entertained the audience as did many of our talented musicians.

Members of the local Chamber of Commerce, businesses and the Waterford Hospice Movement attended the occasion, as did parents and other members of the Dungarvan Community. The event concluded with the release of 200 pink balloons into the air, each a symbol of our continuing support of the Irish Cancer Society.

We would like to thank Mrs. Vera O’Brien and her third year CSPE class for organising Pink Week in the Ard Scoil.

Sports News

Munster Handball Champion, Aoife Landers

Aoife Landers and Lauren McGregor competed in the Munster Schools’ Handball Championship last weekend. Lauren (who is underage again next year) played very well but was beaten in the semi-final. Aoife came safely through her semi-final and with a classy display won the final and was crowned Munster Schools’ Champion. Aoife heads to Roscommon next weekend, where she will compete in the All Ireland Championship.

Past pupil Shona Curran has been named on the Camogie Sports Star Team. A big congratulations from all in the Ard Scoil.

TY Table Quiz

On Monday afternoon the TY students joined up with their CBS counterparts for a very entertaining and enjoyable table quiz. Quizmaster Mr. Collins kept the proceedings running smoothly and humourously, while Mr and Mrs Stack toiled with the answer sheet corrections.

The winners were Aine Power, Veronica Garcia, Muris de Paor and Jamie Sheehan. The joint runners up were Lauren Reagan, Rachel French, Denika Phelan, Cassie Hennessey, Kevin McCarthy, Cian O’Mahoney and Conail Murphy.
