8th September, 2010.
Dear Parents/Guardians,
I would like to extend a warm welcome to the parents/guardians of the new First Year students. I hope
that your daughters will be very happy in Ard Scoil na nDéise.
At the beginning of the new school year, new members are nominated to sit on the Parents’ Council.
Each class is represented by one parent and this group of parents meets at the school approximately 6 to 7 times per year (in the evening time). The Parents’ Council has an important supporting role in the school and over the years has contributed to the provision of ‘extras’ for the students such as computers, sports equipment, musical instruments, a digital camera, a data projector, books for the
school library etc. We also contributed to the painting of the school, and we funded the school’s 10%
contribution (€18,800) for the new windows in the Junior Building. The Parents’ Council supports a
weekly Bingo run in the Sports Centre in conjunction with Dungarvan Town Council – this provides a
regular source of funds to the committee. In the last few years, we had bag packing in Dunnes Stores,
Garveys Supervalu with fantastic help from the Ard Scoil students, and the very successful Dog Night
in October 2008.
The Parents’ Council’s work is by no means confined to fundraising. We help out with school
pantomimes, music evenings, graduations, Open Night, careers evenings etc. All our daughters benefit
from these activities. We are a very hard working group of mothers and fathers, but we always have a
bit of fun, and we would like as many new parents/guardians as possible to join us this year. There is
a large number of committee members willing to stay on the Parents’ Council. In addition, we already
have parents who are willing to take on the key roles of Chairperson, etc.
We are looking for more parents and would really appreciate your help on the Parents’ Council. If you
are available to join please sign your name below.
Please return the attached form to the school before Wednesday, 15th September.
The AGM will be held on Tuesday, 21st September, at 8.00 p.m. in the Senior Hall.
Yours faithfully,
Maurice Power.
Hon.Chairperson.
