Letter to Parents
September 9th, 2010
Dear Parents/Guardians,
School Mass
As you know from the school calendar you received in August, we will have our school Mass on Friday, September 17th. It will take place in the Friary Church at 12.00 noon, and parents/guardians are very welcome to attend. After Mass, students may go home. We are proud to celebrate the Leaving Certificate results of the class of 2010, and we hope that our Junior Certificate students will excel also.
Junior Certificate Schedule & Disco
We expect Junior Certificate results on Wednesday, September 15th. Students who sat the exam will have class as usual until 12.00 noon. They will then receive their results and may go home. The Dungarvan No Name Club is holding a disco in Creation on Wednesday night from 9.30 until 12.00 midnight. Each student who did the Junior Cert may buy two tickets at the school office from Monday, €10 each. The disco is strictly for Third Year students upwards, and an Ard Scoil representative will identify our students. Transition Year and Fifth Year students will start school the following morning at 11.00 a.m., but Third Year students will have school as usual at 9.00 a.m.
Important reminders
- Please remember to pay the General Purpose Fee (which can be paid in instalments), Pupil Personal Accident Insurance and Art fee (if your daughter does Art). Thank you very much to those parents who have already paid.
- Please return the signed Code of Behaviour from your daughter’s journal to her Year Head if you have not yet done so. This refers to all students except First Years and those enrolled this August.
- Please return the green form with update of contact details if you have not already done so.
- Supervised study after school began this week and there are some places still available. Saturday study will begin soon.
- Students should have their name on all books, items of school uniform, jackets, equipment etc. Each girl has a locker which should be kept locked at all times.
UCC Open Day
The UCC Open Day will take place on Saturday, October 9th 2010 at 10 a.m. I would strongly advise 5th and 6th year students who are considering studying at UCC to attend. Parents/guardians are also welcome to attend this interesting event.
Exam fees
Third and Sixth Year students will sit their Pre-Junior and Pre-Leaving exams in February, after the mid-term break. Payment for these exams will be due in late January. While students from families with medical cards do not pay fees for the State exams, unfortunately, no such concession applies for the Pre-exams. The fees may be paid by instalment. Last year Mrs Ashe arranged to start collecting the money in October from students whose parents found it helpful to spread the expense over a few months, and she will speak to Third Year and Sixth Year about this facility again this year.
New Windows on Senior Building
Over the Summer holidays (Summer Works 2010) the windows at the back of the Senior building were replaced and a new type of insulation was applied on the outside. From our own funds the Music room was refurbished and the Junior Hall was painted. It is the responsibility of every student to keep our school environment clean and tidy, to use the correct bins for the disposal of rubbish and to save energy by turning off lights and closing outside doors. I would appreciate if you could support us by reminding your daughter of these responsibilities.
Road Safety Outside School
Finally, a word on road safety. The road between the school buildings is narrow and a school bus must park there in the morning and in the afternoon. Students need to observe the rules of the road and to walk on the pavement only. For safety reasons I would ask parents not to drive up on pavements where students are walking, and not to stop cars or park on the double yellow lines in front of the school and the school gates. Students could be dropped off and collected in the street at the side of the Senior Building or further away from the school buildings.
I hope that all our students will have a successful and happy year in school, and I thank you for your support.
Yours faithfully
Dorothy Hughes
Principal
