Presentation to Munster Camogie Champions

Just before the end of the school year the students took some time out from their studies for a presentation of gear bags to this years Munster Camogie Champions. Earlier this year the team made history when they won the Ardscoil first Munster Camogie Title when they defeated Causeway of Kerry in the under 16-½ decider.

In recognition of this achievement the Board of Management purchased gear bags for the team. Team coaches Mark Cooney and Emillie Pickering made the presentations. Following the presentation team captain Aoife Lander made a presentation to Mark, and Shauna Ferncombe made a presentation to Emillie Pickering to thank them for the commitment and effort they made over the course of the year.

First Year Geography Trip to the Cunnigar.

On the 26th of May our 1.2 class went on our geography field trip with our teacher Mrs O’Brien. We all came to school in our P.E. shirts and tracksuits and after a roll call headed out to the bus. The weather was beautiful as we travelled to the Cunniger.
On arrival, we paused to look at some features such as the bay, the spit and the mountains…and a lovely “hairy molly”! We also talked about the beauty of Dungarvan and its environs.

On our walk we found loads of animals and creatures and saw all the Maram grass, especially near the Sand dunes to stop the winds blowing the sand.

On our return to the bus , we continued on to Helvick Head where we saw all the boats and where the fishermen worked. We looked at the headland and had a picnic before returning to school.  It was a lovely sunny day but luckily nobody got sunburned!
We all agreed it was a wonderful day and hope to do it again next year.

Second Year Visit to the Guide Dog Centre in Cork

On Thursday, May 27th, we, the second year students, travelled to Cork with Mrs. O’Brien and Mrs. Ashe to present a cheque for over €1000 to the Irish Guide Dogs’ Centre. We raised the money in many ways such as coffee mornings for the staff and selling Christmas cards and other merchandise.

We were greeted by Anne Byrne and “Tony”, a retired guide dog! We were then given a tour of the facilities and we learned about the work that goes on in the centre, not just to train the dogs but to teach their new owners independence. We watched a film showing how people benefit from having a guide dog in their life.

After that, we got to meet some of the dogs and of course we would have loved to take them all home with us!

It truly was a great experience so thank you to Mrs. O’Brien and the staff of the centre and to all those who contributed so generously to our fundraising.

Jessica O’Brien and Ellen Power.
