"Reaching our Potential with Respect, Care and Friendship"

Trip to Trabolgan, Cáirde Girls, Irish Guide Dog Fundraiser, 1st Year Hockey Finals

Newsletter - 24th May 2010

T.Y. Trip to Trabolgan.

On Friday the 21st of May the Transition Years went to Trabolgan as a last trip together.  They had a great day out doing many different activities including go karting, zip wire, basket ball, orienteering, swimming and crazy golf.  They all enjoyed the zip wire and go karting the most.  Mr. Collins excelled on the dance floor and also braved the zip wire!  Overall it was a good laugh.  Great fun was had by all!

Cáirde Girls.

This years Cáirde girls met for lunch on Wednesday to celebrate their year of work and support for the school.  These girls are to be thanked for all the effort they put in, especially with the first years.

6th Years.

After their years of study, the Leaving Cert girls are on the last steps of their journey with the Ard Scoil.  This Thursday they will celebrate their many successes with their Graduation Mass.

Second Years Fundraise for the Irish Guide Dogs.

On Thursday Ard Scoil na nDéise held a staff coffee morning in aid of the Irish Guide dog association. 2nd year students made tea, coffee, delicious buns, cakes and biscuits.  It was very successful and we raised €117.  That’s a total of over €1000 that we have raised.

We are travelling to Cork on Thursday to deliver the cheque and to visit the training centre for guide dogs.
We are all really looking forward to this trip with Mrs. O’Brien and Mrs. Ashe.

First Year Hockey.

In the beginning of the school year, Siobhan asked Mrs. Pickering if we could help her with the first year hockey team as part of our Gaisce.  Every Wednesday in the sports centre they trained and they had their first match in November while we were on work experience so we had to get time off.  They played a great first match and were unlucky not to win due to a late goal by the Ursaline.

Ard Scoil won their next few matches and reached the final.  They were undefeated going into the final.  We headed to Midleton to take on our rivals the Ursaline Blackrock.  In their last encounter they drew.  The sun was shining as they warmed up and it was set to be a great match.  Ard Scoil were not at their best for most of the first half but were one goal in front at the break.  It was a tough battle in the second half with a goal by the opponents.

But the backs held their ground and Kayleigh, our goalie, made some great saves.  Our forward launched many attacks but were stopped by a strong Cork side.  Another goal by the Ursaline meant that Ard Scoil had a lot to do in the final minutes.  Ms. Pickering, Siobhan and I were stressed out on the sideline trying to get behind our team.  Unfortunately it wasn’t our day but they had a great season and will hopefully do one better next year.
