It’s been another busy week in the |Ard Scoil, especially for the Art students as they completed another section of their exams. L.C.V.P. students also had an exam.
Ard Scoil’s Smarter Students
Recently, Waterford County Council launched a competition from the Civic Offices Dungarvan, entitled Smarter Travel for Dungarvan. The aim of the competition was to attract awareness among our student population to the idea of changing our behaviour regarding transport to a more healthy lifestyle, away from cars and our dependence on driving. This concept enthused many students, encouraging them to consider car pooling and to think about walking or cycling to school. Two smart second year students, Eleanor Walsh and Ellen Power were selected as the overall winners from the school.
Congratulations girls. We look forward to seeing Eleanor on her bike, and Ellen using the bike accessories, kindly sponsored by Bob Troy Garden Machinery. Our thanks to Waterford Civic Offices for hosting the competition.
T.Y. News.
The T.Y.s had another hectic week starting with a Quiz on Monday.
On Monday afternoon they were joined by T.Y. students from the C.B.S for a very enjoyable Table Quiz. In first place was the team of Maire O’Donnell, Emma McCarthy, Richard Looby and Stephen Halley. Second prize was taken by Emma Ballott, David power, Eileen O’Brien and Alex Lai.
On Tuesday singers from the T.Y. choir went to the hospital with Mr. Collins where they sang for the patients.
Tannery Cooking School
On Wednesday at 10.20 T.Y. classes walked down to the Tannery Cookery school where we were greeted and welcomed by Chef Mr. Paul Flynn. He escorted us to the garden where we saw strawberries, herbs, lettuces and even chickens! He explained how they took care of the garden and in what dished he used the herbs, Then we went into the cookery school where Paul showed us simple ways to make delicious pasta dishes. He demonstrated three different dishes. At the end of the demonstration we got to try all the pasta dishes and then were allowed to look around the rest of the cookery school.
We would like to thank Paul Flynn for so generously giving of his time and knowledge to our students.

Surfing in Tramore.
On Thursday, we ventured to Tramore for a day of surfing with the Oceanic surf School. The bus departed at 8.30 and we arrived at about 9.30. We were then split into two groups. One group went surfing while the other went on a cryptic challenge which was very much like a treasure hunt. The groups swopped over and everyone had a brilliant time. It was a very enjoyable day and we were all wrecked by the end of the day!

Driving Simulator
On Friday the T.Y. students had the opportunity to use a driving simulator to teach them how to drive. They went into the truck in groups of five and began by practising how to steer. They then took a driving test which most of them failed!! For the rest of the session they “drove” around city streets or on the motorway. They all enjoyed it and look forward to really driving, hopefully with far better results!
Ciara Scanlon.
Along with all these activities they have been busy completing projects in different subjects and on |Monday will have the annual Art exhibitions with their friends from Carriglea. Some are also working hard on their E.C.D.L, completing the different levels.
Success on Football Field for Ard Scoil First Years
First year students from Ard Scoil travelled to Clonmel on Thursday last to compete in the Tipperary Schools first year Blitz. In the pool stages of the competition Ardscoil defeated Pres Clonmel, Colaiste Dun an Iascaigh, drew with Pres Thurles and lost narrowly to Loreto Clonmel.
As a result of these performances Ard Scoil made it through to the B Final where they were drawn against Pres Clonmel. The final was a very tight match with only a point separating the teams at half time and Clonmel taking an early lead in the second half however the Ard Scoil found the net in the closing minutes to win by 2 pts.
