Ard Scoil Chefs win Top Prize

Congratulations to Ms Fox’s students Laura Tobin and Lucy Whelan, who were awarded first prize in the School’s Cookery Competition at a presentation ceremony on Friday. Well done also to Mrs Colette Power’s CBS students who took third prize in the event, which was organised as part of the West Waterford Festival of Food.

Memorial Service for Polish President

On Friday, the Mercy Sisters invited members of the Polish community in Dungarvan to a prayer ceremony in the convent chapel to condole with them on their tragic loss. We would like to express our sympathy not only to our own students and families but to the entire Polish Community.

First year Concert

On the 26th of March a concert for first years took place in the School’s Junior Hall. This was organised by five Transition year students: Aisling Cronin, Sophie Duhig, Sophie Allen, Katie Whyte and Claire Crowley. A variety of acts were performed by the students in the first year, including dancing, singing, acting and the playing of musical instruments. It was nice to see all the students who put in the time to help the first years with this event and the students themselves for behaving well. All the time and effort really paid off in the end.
- Aisling Cronin

First year Year Head, Bean de Paor, was very thankful to these T.Y. students, who gave up so much of their time to rehearse the acts, set up the sound and lighting systems, MC and film the event. Congratulations girls and also to our very talented first years.

Retreat Day in Waterford

This week Mrs. Cotter took us on a bus up to Waterford for our retreat. We went to the Edmund Rice Centre and we were divided into two groups with Brother Peadar and a Youth Councillor called Siobhán. I was in Siobhán’s group and firstly we wrote down our relationships with the people we know, with ourselves and with God. Then we made ourselves a crest based on our traits, beliefs, hobbies and favourite possessions. After lunch we went back to our class room and Siobhán showed us how to meditate. She played relaxing music and we all lay on the floor listening to the things she talked about, like how to relax our muscles and get rid of our worries. Some people found it difficult to relax so afterwards we went into the hall and watched a presentation.

It was an interesting experience and it was good to take “time out” with my class mates.

Intel Programme

On January 20th the Ty students started their second week of the “Intel log on and learn programme”. The programme was simply to help retired people to learn computer skills such as how turn on the computer, write emails, shop on line and much more. Both older and younger students enjoyed working with each other. Many of the girls found they learned social and communication skills from their computer buddy such as how to be more patient. Overall everyone was thoroughly pleased with the success of the Log in learn programme . On Wednesday 14th of April there was a presentation where certificates were presented to those who completed the course .We would like to thank our coordinator Mr. O’Keeffe for the work he put in with both sets of students.
