T.Y. Law Day.
On Thursday, March 11th, we had a Law Day I school.. In the morning a barrister spoke to us about what is like to be in court. She answered our questions and told us many interesting facts about Irish law.
We then watched a DVD of a trial . We had to watch carefully to understand all the different jobs in the court, the judge, the clerk, the solicitor, the barrister and the jury.
After lunch we had a mock trial. This was really exciting . We had a murderer, a victim, all the witnesses, the jury and the judge. Two girls acted as barristers for the defence and the prosecution and had to prove their case. In the end we found we found the defendant not guilty and he was set free!.We3 had a very enjoyable day and learned a lot about the \Irish Judicial system. Claire Crowley/
Fun Run: 26th March 2010
On Friday, March 26th, the parents’ Council is organising a Fun Run to help raise funds for different projects in the Ard Scoil. Every student has been given a sponsorship card and these MUST be returned regardless of amount raised. We look forward to seeing as many as possible taking part and remember, this is to benefit the Ard Scoil students so please give as generously as you can.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who gave so kindly on our recent flag days and the girls really appreciated the the warm kind treatment they encountered with the public.
The Fun Run will start at the school at approximately 9.30 and Student Council member Lucy Whelan has written of the council’s involvement in this project.
Student Council members are involved in the Fun Run by bringing together ideas and suggestions to make this fundraising event as much fun as possible. Each representative in each class has gathered some wacky ideas and ewe are in the process of sorting these into possible categories.
First Year Hockey Team Triumphs in Bandon
Last Friday our first year hockey team travelled to take on Bandon Grammar School in their league and came away winners on a scoreline 5-0. We will have a full match report and photos next week. Well done to the girls and their mentor, Ms Emillie Pickering.
Inter Schools Cross Country
Ms. Pickering was busy again on Saturday as she accompanied some of our students to the Inter Schools Cross Country Hunter Trials in Co. Carlow. Unfortunately some of our students had to withdraw at the last minute But Keelin Harty 6th year and Tabitha Alexander 3rd year valiantly carried the Ard Scoil colours successfully across a very arduous course. Well done girls for two excellent clear rounds. At time of press finally results weren’t in but we congratulate the two girls for representing their school so well.
Thank you to parents and Ms. Pickering for accompanying the girls.
