Pre-Exams
It’s back to work after mid-term. Of course, our 3rd and 6th Year students used the break to study for their exams this week. We wish them all the very best in their endeavours.
Ski Tour
While the exam students were hard at work, some senior students, with tour leader, Mrs. Jean O’Donovan, were enjoying the ski slopes in Bulgaria – we will have tales of the “thrills and spills” next week.
Our Lady of Lourdes Feast Day Mass – 12th February
Before the break, we celebrated our Feast Day with our chaplains – Fr. Paul Waldron and Fr. Flor O’Callaghan in St. Mary’s Church.
After the opening hymn, the opening procession was addressed by Orla Hickey and Edel Power. Words of welcome were spoken by Richael Hayes and Gina Gleeson. The First Reading was by Roisin Preston and the second by Sheridan Hallahan. The Psalm “Where are bound Mary” was sung by Layla Quarry, beautifully accompanied by Clodagh Keane and Frances Fitzgerald. Following the Gospel, a reflection on Lourdes was delivered by Eilis Kiely and Prayers of the Faithful were lead by Niamh Whyte, Nadine Browne, Hayley Roe, Rebekah Hurley, Shauna Hallahan and Alison O’Sullivan. The Offertory Procession commentary was by Ailbhe Foley. The basket with names of the sick was brought to the altar by Lauren McGregor and flowers by Michelle Barry. There followed by the Communion Reflection by Andrea Foley.
The Principal, Mrs. Hughes, thanked all those involved in organising this wonderful celebration, which brought all members of the school community together; our chaplains, music teacher Mrs. Ciara Lucey and her superb choir and musicians ably assisted and accompanied by Miss Aoife McCall, our religion teachers, Miss Ciara O’Shea and Miss Helen Cotter and of course, all the students and staff who made this such a special occasion.
Prayer Friends
On Wednesday, 10th February, a number of Sisters from the Mercy Convent met with the 6th Years of Ard Scoil for a very enjoyable coffee morning. On December last, an initiative was launched by the Mercy Sisters to act as a support to the 6th years in this challenging year. This was a wonderful opportunity for both the Sisters and students to meet each other. We are very grateful to the Mercy Sisters for their continued support and prayers.

The 4th and 5th years who held a sponsored walk on Wednesday, 13th February and we would like to thank all those who bought tickets or sponsored the walkers in support of this worthy cause.
Congratulations
Finally, while we acknowledge that “League Tables” don’t tell the full story of a schools’ work and achievements, we are very proud of our students and staff who earned us a very high place in the recent Sunday Times survey. We are always pleased to recognise the wonderful students, be they academic, sporting, artistic, musical or achieving a good grade in a subject they find difficult.
