T.Y. News.
The T.Y.s had barely time to catch their breath on return to school before they began to prepare for the annual Christmas Craft Fair. Again we wish to thank all those who gave the girls the opportunity to experience the workplace; they enjoyed themselves but also got a taste of life in a work environment.
The Craft Fair was held on Thursday morning and many students and staff availed of the opportunity to buy some Christmas gifts. They had a wide variety of wares to choose from; face masks, sweets, personalised runners, jewellery to mention a few. It is good to see our students so inventive, hardworking and well organised. Thanks to business teachers Ms Gleeson and Ms. O’Sullivan for their help and guidance.
Carol Service
On Friday, the school community moved to the Friary Church for our annual carol service with our Chaplains Fr.Flor O’Callaghan and Fr. Paul Waldron. The opening hymn of “O Come all ye Faithful” was accompanied by the First years on their recorders and was followed by words of welcome from Eilis Kiely. Grace O’Sullivan and Lucy Whelan told us the significance of the Advent Wreath.
The first reading from the book of Genesis was read by Aisling Fox and Fr,Flor introduced the Gospel which was narrated by Ellen Power , Ayesha Troy, Emma Casey , Sarah Craddock, Aoife Power and KathyLai.
The prayers of the faithful were read by Zoe Crotty, Becky Hurley, Katie Whyte and Samantha Hayes and the reflection by cousins Una McGrath and Hannah O’Connell. The choir and musicians were splendid as usual, especially Anna Landers and Dearbhla Coffey who sang “Walking in the Air” accompanied by Frances Fitzgerald and the second year guitar group. Thanks to religion teachers MS Cotter and Ms. O’Shea and music teacher, Mrs. Lucey and our chaplains for preparing this lovely service.
Log-On-Learn Computer Course.
The Log-On-Learn computer course in the Ard Scoil conclude recently with all students receiving their participation certificates. The course, sponsored by Intel, Microsoft and An Post, was an outstanding success. Based on the “buddy” system, each adult was assigned a younger “buddy”- a transition year student – who helped them on a one to one basis. Topics covered included using the internet, sending and receiving email, online shopping and booking flights.
Pictured are the adult participants, their transition year “buddies”, Declan O’Keeffe (course facilitator), Ann Stack (TTY coordinator) and Dorothy Hughes (school principal). The course will be run again after Christmas beginning Wednesday, January 20th. It will offer one to one computer training for retired people.
Some places are still available – please contact the school (058 41464) if you are interested in registering.
