Successful Parents’ Council Table Quiz

A very successful table quiz, organised by the Parents’ Council, was held in Minnie’s on Thursday last to raise funds for our school. It was very well supported by parents, staff and friends of the Ard Scoil.

A big thank you is due to Pat O’Brien (Minnie’s) for sponsoring the quiz prizes. Thanks and well done to quizmaster Bob O’Brien and his team for making the night such fun for everyone.

The Parents’ Council would like to say a big thank you to the parents of students in the ARD Scoil for giving so generously for raffle and auction prizes. It was much appreciated and added considerably to the amount raised on the night.

A HUGE thank you to our wonderful Parents’ Council for all their hard work in organising this enjoyable and successful night.

13th Annual Awards Night

The Parents’ Council members were busy again the following night as they catered for students, parents and guests at our annual Awards night. I will a have a full account and photos next week but we would like to thank our sponsors who helped to make this special night.; Fergal Colbert, Tree surgeon; James Conroy, electrician; East Cork Oil; Eason’s (Pat and Mary Whyte); Kilnatoora Cleaners; Jitterbeans; Quick Pick; Sip’n’Surf; Ger Wyley; Shanley Mechanical Contractors; David Walsh (School and Office Supplies); Tomas Walsh (Building Contractor); Brigid Ballott, Flowers.

Debate and Public Speaking

Already the competitions are lining up for this year’s debating teams and young public speakers in Ard Scoil na nDeise. They continue a strong tradition in the school, which is beneficial to them now and in the future. A successful past pupil, Cliona Ashe, returned recently to act as a Mentor to the school team. Cliona began her public speaking in Ard Scoil in Ms. Neylin’s TY Communication Class. Once she joined the team for the Concern Debates she had caught the bug, and she has gone from strength to strength. Having won many second level contests, she continued her success at third level in UCD. This year she is one of the youngest ever university debaters in the World Debating Championships scheduled to debate in Oxford, Yale (USA), Edinburgh and Turkey.

We look forward to the many contests for our school speakers and encourage younger pupils to attend as audience members. Maybe they will catch the bug too. In the meantime we wish the best of luck to Cliona. The Ard Scoil is cheering for you!
