Aoife Landers and Her Classmates with Vice Principal Collette Power and Principal Dorothy Hughes
T.Y. News.
The T.Y.s will have another cake sale this week as once again they fundraise for charity. I will have news of final total collected next week. They are also busy setting up their various enterprises. On Tuesday, following rehearsal with music teacher Mrs Lucey, they went to St. Joseph’s Hospital with Mr. Collins to sing for the patients; included in their were old favourites such as “I’ll tell my Ma when I go home” and “The Wild Rover” This is such a busy year, it’s amazing all they manage to fit in.
Sport Star Aoife Landers heads to the U.S.
Second year student, Aoife Landers is off to Portland, Oregon in the U.S. to compete with her club mates in the Handball World Championships. Aoife is a real all-rounder with 5 Munster medals for Handball, 3 All Ireland medals for Handball, 1 Munster medal for Camogie and 1 All Ireland medal for football. She was joined by her classmates and Year Head Mrs O’Brien for a celebration to mark her many achievements before she set off for the Championships and took time to write this account of her trip.
“I am going to Portland, Oregon to play in the Handball World Championships. The competitions start on the 4th of October and finish on the 11th. We won’t find out when we are playing or what groups we are in until we get out there. I am going with my local Handball Club, The Friary, Abbeyside, and Ballinacourty Club. We have a total of 12 juveniles playing, some in doubles matches and some in singles. I am in the Under 15 Girls Singles competition. My coaches are my father, Johnny Landers and Br. Finbarr Spring of St. Augustine’s. My family and my aunt are travelling with me.”
We wish all the best to Aoife and her club mates.
