Newletter - September 28th Victory at the Munster Hill Running Championships. On Wednesday last, September 23rd, the Munster Hill running Championships took place in Co. Tipperary. As in previous years, the Ard Scoil fielded strong runners in junior, intermediate and senior categories.. The event started promptly at 12 noon and the first race was the Junior Girls. The Ard Scoil team ran exceptionally well and claimed first team prize. Next the Inter and Senior girls took to the starting line. This time the course was a little longer but everyone finished well with Rebecca Maher claiming first place, Aine Power 2nd and Kayleigh Norris 3rd. The Ard Scoil again took first team prize. All in all a superb day’s running was had by all who braved the hills. Well done to Mrs. Ashe and her athletes and thank you to Rebecca Maher who wrote the above piece. Sports. As well as the regular P.E. classes, training has started after school in Football, Camogie and Hockey and hopefully soon the popular badminton will resume. Thanks to our P.E. teachers who give up their time to train the various teams. T.Y. Activities. Surfing in Tramore. One of the T.Y.s wrote the following account of their recent trip to Tramore and I promised not to print her name. Thanks, A! The whole of fourth year went to Tramore on the 18th of September. We left at 8.30 in the morning and were all full of excitement on the bus. We arrived at Tramore around 9.30. At first we went to the wrong Surf school but soon found ourselves in the right place. We were greeted by the instructors and divided up into two groups. My group went for a walk along the beach and sand dunes first with a lady instructor who taught us many interesting facts, including that there are 500 different types of seaweed. On our adventures we found a dead seal, learned how to light fires with stones and we ran up mand down the dunes! After lunch it was our turn to go surfing and we were given our wetsuits by Alan, Jorge and Paul. Katie got into a bit of difficulty and it took five of us to get the suit on her! We began by running up and down the beach to warm up and then we were shown how to surf. I was so happy to be wearing the wetsuit because the water was freezing and I soon forgot that I resembled a penguin. We had lots of fun in the water and I managed to stand up twice! Our Spanish classmates were delighted to have a compatriot as instructor. The time flew when we were surfing and it was hard to believe the time was up. We waddled back up to the school with our boards and had a freezing cold shower which definitely woke me up. Then we got dressed and headed home. We sang all the way home and it was really a brilliant start to fourth year. Ploughing Championships. We got up at 5.30. a.m. and out to school for 6.45. The bus was lively to say the least! We had to go to Athy which should have taken 2 and half hours but took three and a half. When we finally arrived, we had great fun. Our wellies were unnecessary but we looked good. We got loads of free stuff and met Joe Canning and got photos and autographs. There was so much to see and the day passed very quickly and it seemed no time a t all before we were back on the bus.
