7th September 2009 - Back To School
Congratulations.
As we settle back into the new school year, we would like to congratulate the Leaving Cert. students who did so well in their exams. We wish them every success in their future lives and careers as they head off to all corners of Ireland, and some across the water, to further their studies.
Meanwhile, the Junior Cert pupils are awaiting their results on Wednesday and we anticipate the squeals as they peruse them!!
Well done to Tara Roche, Caitriona Slevin, Edel Roche, Rebecca Maher and Roisin Tobin who completed the recent Sean Kelly cycle!!
Welcome.
As we sadly say goodbye to Mr. John Cunningham who has retired after a long and illustrious career in the Ard Scoil, we welcome Mrs Kimberly Gleeson as our new Guidance teacher and Counsellor..
A very big welcome to our new First years; it seems we have another very talented group joining the school community judging by all who have already joined Mrs Lucey in the music room for lunchtime practise. I believe there are many excellent sportswomen in the classes too!! As they arrived for their first day, they were greeted by the wonderful Cairde girls who were on hand from eight thirty to meet them. They are taking care to make sure they settle in and Rebecca Maher has written this account of their first day
On Friday last, August 28th, we, the Cairde girls, along with the teachers, welcomed the First Years for their first day in secondary school. At nine o’clock all the new students gathered together for a welcoming assembly with Mrs. Hughes, Mrs Power and their Year Head, Bean de Paor.. Here they were also sorted into their classes and began to meet some of their teachers.
We joined them at break time and afterwards we separated to join each class. During this time we played games with them which helped them to get to know each other and it also gave us the opportunity to get top know the girls better.
Lunch was eaten in the Senior Hall and after that everyone headed to the Junior Hall where the Table Quiz took place. The girls were divided into teams of four, with two girls representing each class. The quiz was lots of fun and it even went to a tie breaker! Prizes were given to the first, second and third place teams. We also had a few spot prizes for a couple of brave girls who got up and told a joke which ended the day on a high note.
After an enjoyable first day, we hope the girls will happily settle into the Ard Scoil and we will be on hand to help them.
